The Story of a Historic Bucks County Farmhouse Sign

This is the sign as it originally looked when removed in March from the historic Gronendahl farm in Bucks County, PA. The sign had suffered through years of harsh weather and was in dire need of restoration. We undertook this project in early March 2001 and the complete restoration took approximately 6 weeks from start to finish.

Steve started by sanding the sign down to bare wood. When sanding was finished, the sign was allowed to air dry to remove any traces of moisture. and was prepared for priming and several coats of long lasting enamel lacquer paint.

The Sign had also fallen victim to insect and water damage, steps were taken to reinforce and repair the damage. Our skilled artisans spent many long hours helping the aging and weathered sign regain all of its former beauty.

Finally, after weeks of work, the final coats of finish were applied, the letters were painted with a gold leaf enamel, striping and edging were painted, the logo was applied with a high-performance 3M vinyl appliqué and the sign was reinstalled at the farm so that future generations may continue to appreciate the heritage and tradition of this beautiful Bucks County treasure.
